Rotterdam, April 19th, 2012 - It is with great pride that the organizers of City Racing today officially announce that insurer Allianz Netherlands will bring the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team to the event. The eight edition of the event takes place on the 26th of August in the centre of Rotterdam. After the team's development driver Sam Bird experienced a great taste of the event in 2011, this year Team Principal Ross Brawn will be sending the brand new Chinese Grand Prix winner Nico Rosberg to Rotterdam. Last year hundreds of thousands of visitors witnessed the demonstrations by the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS and Scuderia Ferrari.
Nico Rosberg and the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team, attend this largest motorsport spectacle for the second time. In 2006 the German drove the Williams car in his first Formula 1 season, through the streets of Rotterdam. Since his debut, he has made a tremendous development. ‘'I'm looking forward to returning to Rotterdam and entertaining all of the spectators, and I am happy that Allianz will make this possible with their Drive Safely program. In 2006 I already drove the circuit so I know what the possibilities are and this will benefit the show'', Nico said.
Allianz has been active for over ten years in Formula 1. In 2007, Allianz became 'Official Global Partner of Formula One' and puts the emphasis on safety in particular. Since the end of 2010 Allianz brands the Medical Car and Safety Car at the Grand Prix. Also the "Allianz Center for Technology", an international consulting and research institute, has been working for almost 80 years to improve vehicle safety and innovation in damage recovery. "Allianz is proud to contribute to the largest motorsports event in the Netherlands. Like in Formula 1 at City Racing we emphasize the importance of safety, both in racing and daily traffic", said Sjoerd Laarberg Chief Sales Officer of Allianz Netherlands Group.
Organizer Rotterdam Racing is very enthusiastic that they can already announce that Nico Rosberg will be present at City Racing with his Mercedes AMG F1 W03 car. "Immediately after the edition in 2011 we had a positive evaluation with Allianz and Mercedes. We are very proud that the team will be sending GP-winner Rosberg. We know Nico from 2006 and saw a passionate and an enthusiastic driver giving a great demonstration in Rotterdam. Allianz highlights its activities on the importance of safety within the Formula 1. Thanks to Allianz, the national and international motorsport fans can once again enjoy the silver Mercedes AMG Petronas car", said organizer Herman Vaanholt. Besides the arrival of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team and Nico Rosberg, the organization expects to announce more attendees shortly.
