It is raining, the start is a problem for all cars. L.Hamilton takes off from the first row, together with Jenson Button, followed by M.Schmacher, overtaken by R.Grosjean immediately. In a fraction of a second M.Schumacher slips into an overspin and falls through. The one with the green wet tires. M.Schumacher was sent spinning after a contact with R.Grosjean. M.Schumacher drops from the third to the thirteenth position. There is a thick cloud of water spray behind the cars. The first in the pits is Felipe Massa, followed by the others. The rain is getting heavier. R.Grosjean ends up in the gravel on the lap 4.
The track conditions are way too dangerous, on lap 7 the Safety Car is out and the field lines up in a train behind the Safety Car, on the lap 9 the red flag flies. The cars come back to the start again in the order as they were behind the Safety Car. According to the new rules the race may not exceed 4 hours. Everybody hides under an umbrella, McLaren Mercedes, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, Red Bull Racing and others build up a cosy portable shelter over the whole car and work it peacefully. What an organization. Everybody has to put on the wet Pirreli tires. After the restart on the lap 13 the Safety Car is in and the racing commences again. On the lap 15 a milder specification Pirreli Zero green is put on. J.Button loses his front wing after an incident with N.Karthekian, but the fault is Button's. Lap 16 - F.Alonso of Ferrari is leading. Lap 21 - S.Vettel is on the 4th place.
Lap 48 - S.Vettel has a problem with his left rear tire and has to pit from the 4th place. The defect was the result of an accident with N.Karthekian who is not to be blamed for it though. Alonso is leading ahead of Perez, who is losing 1 s seven laps before the end. Alonso is on the softer compound than Perez, so the final of the race is a drama for Sauber Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari. Six laps to the finish the Alonso's advantage is 0.5s over Perez. Unfortunately, Perez makes a mistake at the end of the lap 50, widening the gap to Alonso to 5s as he slips out of the track. Alonso is the leader! Two laps before the end there is smoke comimg from Maldonado's engine and he has to retire, passing his tenth place to Schumacher. S.Vettel is on the 12th place out of points. Fernando Alonso wins the Malaysian GP. Viva Italia.
